Action plan: Focus of work: We would like to work with the Northern Cochlear Implant Team to review current practice in early intervention, implantation and outcomes for a range of children within the NCIP catchments and to focus on transition to school practices to support ongoing progress for children accessing language through audition. The programme will be run over the next two years with an outcome focus on accelerating language development for children entering school and /or those currently in the fist four years of school (Year 1 – Year 4) through developing key competencies and supporting students to access the Learning areas of the NZ Curriculum . Expected outcomes: · Review of current practices internationally · Reviewing barriers to learning for individuals and access to the NZ Curriculum · Review of assessment and data collection information · Development of accelerated teaching practices to enhance language outcomes for Deaf and Hearing Impaired Students in Mainstream Schools with focus on Key competencies and access to the NZ Curriculum · Standardised assessment and data collection · Improved training for professionals and paraprofessionals in mainstream schools Outline of the process to be followed: (What form meetings/events will take and when, communication between members, development of foci for meetings) The Resource Teachers of the Deaf will work in two groups Auckland / Northland and Waikato / Bay of Plenty with the expectation that modules delivered will then generate collaborate activity to be advanced during intervening periods. The initial two days at the beginning of 2011 will focus on the review of the Northern Cochlear Implant Programme and scoping the practice for 2011-2012. We will work in collaboration with Cheryl Dickson to outline the programme and support the delivery. It is expected that we will work in small groups to review the programme for students with the expectation that outcomes will generate Best Practice models for all students. The use of video to review individuals and practice will form a key component of the training.
